Relationship with local volunteer groups
Friends of the Earth Limited owns the Friends of the Earth trademark. We grant local groups a licence to campaign under our name subject to some limitations under the agreement.
Local groups also sign a Partnership Agreement setting out how local groups, our networks and staff should support each other.

Bonnie lives in Northern Ireland. She is Chair of Friends of the Earth Limited, Chair of Londonderry Port and Harbour Commissioners, and a Director with Mourne Country Park Limited. Bonnie has an MA (Trinity College Dublin) and an MSc in Leadership for Sustainable Development’ (Queens University, Belfast). Bonnie is a member of the Institute of Directors and in 2016 she completed the Institute of Directors Diploma in Company Direction.
Chris is Director of the Community Environment Associates consultancy and chairs the Climate Action England (formerly the UK Low Carbon Communities Network). He also works with excluded communities for the Big Lottery ‘Big Local’ programme, is a director of Mapping for Change, an Honorary Research Associate at University College London, and an Associate of the Green Alliance and the Sheila McKechnie Foundation.
Stephen is the Chief Executive of Refugee Action. He has previously worked for Oxfam International managing Oxfam's global campaigning, and as the Director of the Green Alliance. He is the author of The New Commandments of Climate Change Strategy (2010) and The New Politics of Climate Change (2008). Stephen has an OBE for services to the environment.
Kate is a Senior International Policy Officer at RSPB. She has a BA in English Literature (Durham University), and an MA in English Literature (UCL).
Kay lives in North Wales, and has been an active member of the Llangollen and District Friends of the Earth group since 2010. Since 2011 she has been the lead community organiser for TCC (Trefnu Cymunedol Cymru / Together Creating Communities), an alliance of community organisations, faith groups, and schools in North Wales. Kay is a Welsh learner and hopes to become fluent one day.
Anne recently completed a PhD at Queen's University Belfast that critiques the role of designers in international development and has a specific focus on designing energy futures in The Gambia. She also works as Senior Lecturer in the School of Art, Architecture and Design at Leeds Beckett University.
Simon is a solicitor at Bates Wells & Braithwaite, the UK’s leading charity law firm. He specialises in providing commercial, financial and charity law advice to charities and social enterprises. He has a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (Oxford University).
Matt has a career spanning public, private and not for profit sectors, including roles as Head of Digital and Corporate Marketing at Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust; Deputy Director of Communications, Policy and Campaigns at Shelter; and Head of Marketing and Communications at The Carbon Trust. Matt currently works in marketing/communications consultancy for a range of clients, supports a range of environmental causes, and is a keen sailor and walker. He has an MBA from Cranfield and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Nottingham University.
