Blackwater Valley is a local Friends of the Earth group. We're enthusiastic volunteers concerned with conserving and improving the environment of the Aldershot, Farnborough, Fleet, Camberley, Bagshot, and Frimley areas. The group aims to make life better for people who are living in, working in, or visiting the area by inspiring solutions to environmental problems. We do this ourselves or by working with other groups which have similar aspirations. We campaign and raise awareness on environmental issues at local, regional, national, and international level.
We've worked on a variety of campaigns over the years. We've been participants in the Bee Cause and grown wildflowers in parks to increase the bee population. We've measured the poor air quality around Surrey Heath using NOx tubes and more recently a particulate counter for real-time measurements. We've also held a Climate Action event in Camberley to bring groups together to help fight the Climate Emergency.
We need all sorts of members to maintain the campaigning strength of the group. If you join us you can help in any way you like, from reviewing local plans to being out in the open measuring air quality. Whatever you do, you'll have the satisfaction of doing your bit to help the planet. We always try to have some social fun as well - from Christmas parties to pub quizzes.
