Friends of the Earth network of local volunteer groups work to improve the environment locally, nationally and internationally. If you live in Swale and are concerned about issues such as climate change, biodiversity, transport, and how these relate to local issues - then we'd love to hear from you. We’re passionate about creating a healthy natural environment and a fair economy where everyone’s needs are met, now and in the future.
We hold monthly meetings at the Old Wine Vaults, Preston Street, Faversham, at 7.30pm on the second Tuesday of the month - the next one is this evening Tues 12 Nov. You’ll be able to find out about the group's activities and how you can join in - everyone is welcome. If you use Facebook, please do like our Facebook group
This Saturday 1 Dec is the great Green Christmas Market, now in its eleventh year! Its possible to be responsible with your Christmas shopping choices! All welcome - craft activities and lots of different gifts to browse!
Since the last meeting we've held our first regular Saturday market stall, which went well. We collected 6 sheets of petition signatures (3 for the climate change one and 3 for fracking/planning regulations) and had a lot of good conversations: the fact that we focused on fracking for our climate change message and that it was in the news that morning really helped! People also found the little flyers of '5 Things You Can Do' interesting - a good conversation starter. Our inflatable planets were great - really drew people to the stand!
Here are just a few of the events we've organised in the past few years:
- environmental film screenings;
- talks by campaigners and experts
- debates about environmental issues between candidates at election times;
- green and ethical Christmas fairs.
There is no formal membership of Swale Friends of the Earth. If you'd like to know more about the group please get in touch or simply come to the next meeting. You will be very welcome.
