Southampton's air is dirty. 110 local people die prematurely each year because of it, with many more suffering health problems.
We are demanding that Southampton City Council do much more to tackle this issue, for the benefit of everyone.
OUR DEMANDS... By 2020, Southampton City Council must: - Create an Ultra-Clean Air Zone in the city, charging any significantly polluting vehicle; - Oversee a 50% city-wide reduction in air pollution; - Work with cruise companies to ensure their polluting engines are turned off whilst in port, providing on-shore power supplies at the docks.
So this Saturday 15th December, come for a few hours and help us show Southampton City Council that we care, and are willing to help change our city!
ON THE DAY At 1pm, there will be speeches and symbolic actions outside the Civic Centre. Then we'll walk together to Bargate and stage a public 'die-in', to raise awareness of the 110 pollution-related deaths per year.
Please were dark colours to show your respect.
Meet us at the Art House at 12:30pm, ready to walk together to the steps of the Council! Message The Green Resistance, or Extinction Rebellion Southampton for more information.
