Children and families at Basecamp

Basecamp has always prided itself on being the most family-friendly activist gathering in the UK.

And this year we're excited to announce that we'll be running a full programme for children and young people from age 3 right up to 16.

So invite your teenagers to take a break from exam revision and get stuck into changing the world.

We'll see you in a field in Derbyshire.

Basecamp 2017 tickets

It all kicks off on Friday afternoon. Join us and choose your Basecamp adventure for this year.

Will you find your voice (and some new friends) through planning and making your own film, story to share or shadow puppet show?

Will you build a home for yourself or your minibeast friends in a den or a floating city?

Will you reach for the stars in the tops of the tallest trees (only for the very bravest!)?

Will you learn what wild beasts share our Basecamp space?

Or perhaps you'll find your very own special adventure to remember until next year.

Check back here for a full programme nearer to Basecamp.

The Hedgehog Kindergarten

Building on its success in 2016 (pictured), we’ll be providing a special selection of closely supervised activities for our 3 to 6-year-old guests.

Our Hedgehogs can join in with all our kids activities, but they will also be supervised in free play with an increased staff ratio and a named key contact for each child.

New programme for teens in 2017

Young people are welcome to attend all of our Basecamp sessions but, by popular demand, we will also be providing a tailored programme designed for 11-16 year olds.

Join us in learning how to get your voice heard by making your own short film. Chat to seasoned campaigners young and old then get your message out with help from our film-making experts and create something to show in the big marquee on the final day.

Then let off some steam with tree-climbing or verbal aikido, or just chill out with like-minded friends.

This year we are also very excited to be welcoming the first graduates from our My World My Home programme, a Community Campaigning course for 16-18 year olds.

Do come and say hello, and find out how they got going on their first campaigns.

Notes for parents

A full programme of children's activities is offered throughout the weekend with qualified and DBS-checked staff, and first aiders are on site. You can attend Basecamp sessions all day, safe in the knowledge that your children are looked after and having a great time. All children's activities will be based around the site of the main event so you will be able to find them easily at any time – or if you prefer you can drop them off in the morning and pick them up at supper time.

For those who attended last year, we are really pleased to say that Phil and the Ladybird Project will be returning this year to deliver our programme for Basecamp kids.

The children's programme is appropriate for children aged 3 and over (we apologise we cannot provide childcare for infants, but there will be crafty materials and lots of wonderful spaces for you to explore with our smallest guests).

We will have an indoor space in case of inclement weather, but in keeping with the nature of the event we will also encourage children to get outside as much as possible. Your children will get wet and muddy.

If you have any questions about provision and facilities for children or infants, please do get in touch at [email protected]
