Government to review air passenger duty

Review mustn't lead to cheaper air travel and more flights, says Friends of the Earth

Reacting to news that the government is to review air passenger duty, Friends of the Earth aviation campaigner Jenny Bates said:

“Any review of air passenger duty that leads to cheaper air travel and more polluting flights, would be a complete scandal - and rip apart Boris Johnson’s pledge to show leadership on the climate crisis.

“Instead, the chancellor must use his next Budget to speed up the transformation to a zero-carbon economy, make rail travel better and more affordable, and make the aviation industry play its part. We are dealing with a climate emergency and no section of industry or government should be allowed to act otherwise.”
