We're an environmental campaigning group active in Reading and the surrounding area.
We influence our local councils through attending meetings and responding to consultations – and we help people get involved with campaigns for a safer and healthier planet.
We have petition drives on the street, and run stalls at local summer fairs and festivals to get the message out to the public.
Our press releases and letters get in the local media and we do radio or TV interviews whenever we can.
We're especially active on transport, climate, and energy issues.
We presented a petition on air quality to the Council in 2017, which we've followed up with questions and proposals for its transport plan.
In recent years we've supported national Friends of the Earth petitions on bees and pollinators and opposed the Oxford-Cambridge Expressway development and the ‘Smart M4’.
Reading Friends of the Earth meetings usually take place on the second Wednesday of every month upstairs at RISC, 35-39 London Street, Reading, RG1 4PS at 8pm. But check our website for changes.
In addition, we hold meetings with external speakers from time to time. Our bi-monthly newsletter includes a diary of local events. We often join in with actions by other local groups such as Save Our Ancient Riverside and Extinction Rebellion.
