Harm to people and planet isn’t “just business” Let’s hold greedy companies to account

It's not "just business"

Greedy UK companies are raking in billions while precious forests are destroyed worldwide. Their “cutting-edge technology” and “blue-sky thinking” is having a devastating impact on wildlife, climate and communities. And we’re often unknowingly buying harmful products as they hide their shady practices.

But shockingly, for these giant faceless corporates, harm to people and planet is “just business”. Even worse, our government is letting them get away with it. Around 8.5 million hectares of forest is lost every year. We must act now to save our world’s forests – before it’s too late.

Together, we can end the destruction

It’s not “just business” if companies are profiting at the expense of nature and communities. That’s why we’re calling on the UK government to protect people and planet with a new law – the Business, Human Rights and Environment Act.

This would make UK companies legally responsible for environmental harms and human rights abuses that happen during the making and delivery of their products. And impacted communities around the world could finally seek justice in UK courts.

So a new law would protect nature and champion human rights by establishing stronger rules for UK businesses. Now that’s “thinking outside the box”. This November, the UN’s international climate talks (COP 30) will be held in the iconic Amazon rainforest. It’s high time our leaders listen to Indigenous peoples and local communities – the best protectors of our forests.

Why us?

  • We’re part of a powerful alliance – the Corporate Justice Coalition, made up of over 40 charities, trade unions, academics and legal experts – demanding that harm to people and planet is no longer business as usual.
  • We’re standing with impacted communities and other allies around the world who are leading the fight against unethical corporates.
  • We’ve already exposed big business behaving badly – from working with allies to pressure timber company Samling into dropping its lawsuit against forest defenders protecting their land, to driving more than 50,000 people to challenge Unilever to cut ties with a damaging palm oil producer in Indonesia.
