Volunteering and other opportunities at Friends of the Earth

Volunteering

We love our volunteers. We’re hugely grateful when you gift us your time and skills. Come and create some memorable experiences with us.

We advertise available volunteering roles on our current vacancies page. These can be remote or based in one of our regional offices. Volunteer roles are recruited in much the same way as paid roles, following an open and fair application process.

Interested in supporting our work but not as a volunteer? Find out about other ways to take action, from signing a petition to fundraising.

Jobs at Friends of the Earth

Volunteering for Friends of the Earth has been transformative

I originally contacted Friends of the Earth Cymru to find my local climate group, and was quickly welcomed with open arms. I’ve channelled my climate anxiety into action, working on various campaigns in ways that work for me. Volunteering for Friends of the Earth has been transformative, boosting my confidence and revealing capabilities I wasn’t aware I held, all while campaigning for a liveable future!

Volunteering is a very good way in for anyone starting out on an environmental career

After 35+ years in the commercial world I wanted a change. I was already a Friends of the Earth supporter and so volunteering there made sense. It was an opportunity to make a difference. I was made to feel welcome from the outset. I have worked on land use, aviation policy, and a range of IT/ data/ mapping projects (eg on heating and insulation, and to help campaigning at the local authority level). All of this has been interesting and challenging. Volunteering is a very good way in for anyone starting out on an environmental career.

Apprenticeships and work experience

Due to logistical challenges, unfortunately we don’t currently offer apprenticeships or work experience placements. However, we’re working towards both an apprenticeship scheme and a work experience programme so that we can support people, especially young people, looking to work in the environmental sector. We’ll share more info on this page as soon as these opportunities are available.
