Responding to the sharp fall in the Ofgem energy price cap, announced this morning, Friends of the Earth’s head of policy, Mike Childs, said:
“It’s great to see energy prices fall – but the main reason UK bills are still so high is our dependence on gas.
“If we want permanently lower bills and real energy security, we must speed up investment in the UK’s vast homegrown renewables and fix our heat leaking homes.
“Onshore wind and solar already produce electricity far more cheaply than new gas or nuclear.
“Politicians who claim that cutting climate action will cut bills aren’t offering solutions - they’re peddling a myth that sacrifices measures that benefit us all for short-term headlines.”
