Responding to government’s 10-year plan for industry, Mike Childs, head of science, policy and research at Friends of the Earth, said:

“Climate change is one of the biggest threats we face, and through more extreme weather events it's already hitting lives, jobs, and economies around the world.

“Cutting carbon pollution isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s also a huge opportunity to create new jobs, lower electricity costs for industry and households, and boost energy security.

“The Industrial Strategy is welcome confirmation that the government recognises tackling climate change is a win for both the economy and the planet, and that the UK can reap the enormous benefits of being at the forefront of the global climate effort.

“Later this year the government must publish a climate plan to deliver on the UK’s climate targets. This is a critical opportunity to ensure that action on climate isn’t just good for business, but benefits millions across the country who've been left worse off by the cost-of-living crisis."
