Manchester synagogue attack – Friends of the Earth statement
A synagogue in Manchester has been targeted in a harrowing act of violence which has killed two and left several people seriously injured. Speaking as Friends of the Earth's chief executive and on behalf of Manchester Friends of the Earth, Asad Rehman, said:
"Friends of the Earth condemns the appalling attack on Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester which has taken place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in the Jewish faith. What should be a sacred moment of observance and reflection for the Jewish community has been scarred by tragedy.
"Our thoughts are with the victims' loved ones and with all members of the Jewish community in the UK and beyond who will be shaken by this heart-breaking news. Let us be clear that hatred, antisemitism and racism have no place in our society. To all of those facing increasing violence and hostility on the basis of their race, faith or where they're from, please know that we stand alongside you."
