In partnership with The Co-Operative Bank we're funding community gardeners, called Postcode Gardeners.
They can green up their spaces however they want. And they'll bring communities together to bring back nature to 1,000 spaces across the country.

Community gardening in England
Notting Dale, London
Postcode Gardener: Liz Moxon
"I want them to rediscover that nature is living just outside their front door."
In Notting Dale, volunteers transformed a dumping ground into a breeding ground for wildlife. They supported local people to learn about pollinators using their honeybees. And engaged non-gardeners of all ages and backgrounds in community space and windowsill food growing.

Wythenshawe, Manchester
Postcode Gardner: Ciarán McLoughlin
The Wythenshawe project has been working with young people, including supporting students with learning difficulties to grow food and facilitating a student-led partnership to care for local woodland. Ciarán has also developed growing spaces with adults experiencing mental ill health through therapeutic horticulture.

West Gorton, Manchester
Postcode Gardener: Lizzie Meade
Lizzie has been collaborating with schools so young people can grow fruit and vegetables, planting pollinator friendly green manure, and adding birdboxes and bug hotels to many green spaces in the area.

Balsall Heath, Birmingham
Postcode Gardener: Dan Burwood
Dan has been planting orchards in parks, organising inter-faith and solidarity activities that celebrate food, growing and culture, and partnered with community organisations to develop shared food growing spaces for daily meals.

Orchard Park, Hull
Postcode Gardener: John Pickles
Orchard Park supports a range of schools and community groups in growing at their allotment and at a local day care centre. John has worked with local residents and the council through the Right to Grow initiative to develop a beautiful wildflower lawn on a housing estate in the area.

Bransholme, Hull
Postcode Gardener: Jon Pearson
"Gardening to me is an escape into another world [...] it brings everyone together with what's around us."
Bransholme works with young people in deeply impactful ways. They've been growing vegetables to cook with on a rooftop ‘pizza garden’ at a local school, nurturing care for wildlife and gardening with young people at a youth centre. As well as engaging the public in restoring a community woodland.

Rose Hill, Derby
Postcode Gardener: Connor Wallis
In Rose Hill, they've been working closely with community centres to place planters around the area. They're developing a community garden in a cafe. And running workshops. They've also painted an old horsebox pink and turned it into a mobile greenhouse that travels to events – spreading growing knowledge and joy!

East Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough
Postcode Gardener: Lucy Brown
East Middlesbrough have transformed a disused site into a thriving community allotment. Local people are developing growing knowledge and practical skills, as well as deep social connections and a sense of purpose. They're planning to revitalise suburban areas with new planters and green spaces, working with the community to encourage ownership and sustainability.

Barton Hill, Bristol
Postcode Gardener: Harriet Wylie
In Barton Hill, Harriet has been transforming neglected corners of the area’s parks and green spaces into vibrant community gardens. This includes developing a community orchard with the help of a dedicated group of volunteers. And a safe and welcoming space for young people using Bristol’s child and adolescent mental health services to help aid their recovery and wellbeing.

Wood Green, London
Postcode Gardener: Luke Newcombe
The Wood Green project have planted a wildlife pond which has become an educational resource for a local school. They collaborated with the council to create a wildlife-friendly garden at Wood Green Library. And they've been contracted to manage Hackney Council’s 15 street parklets, forming a key part of the Hackney Buzzline.

Community gardening in Wales
Tyleri, Blaenau Gwent
Postcode Gardener: Jamie Thomas
After storm damage in Cwmtyleri in 2025, the project reclaimed land for a community-led wildflower area, inspiring residents to create a pollinator corridor across their front gardens. They have also successfully grown and harvested wheat for possibly the first time in the area since the 18th century!

Rhyl, Denbighshire
Postcode Gardener: Penny Pearce-Whitby
In Rhyl, Penny and her team of dedicated volunteers have transformed the back of a local chippy into an award-winning community allotment. They're engaging young people in growing food and flowers in innovative ways, as well as turning a disused concrete area into a thriving community garden for the public to enjoy.

Ferndale, Rhondda Valley
Postcode Gardener: Lisa Morgan
In Ferndale, the Arts Factory support adults with additional needs to garden, grow food, and learn new skills to green their area – including developing the Cwtch memorial garden, where they can remember colleagues who have passed and take some quiet time when needed.

Ravenhill, Swansea
Postcode Gardener: Cerys Jones
Based at Swansea Community Farm, the Ravenhill project has improved green areas for wildlife. They've created herb gardens for the community to pick from. And taught young people about growing and pollinators during garden days at the farm as well as in local schools.

St Thomas, Swansea
Postcode Gardener: Ollie Lister
St Thomas has developed a strong record of transforming front gardens from concrete slabs to wildlife-friendly green spaces, creating opportunities for neighbours to help one another. These gardens, along with activities in local community centres, are connecting people across generations and strengthening community spirit in St Thomas.

Ely and Caerau, Cardiff
Postcode Gardener: Rob Fuller
The Ely and Caerau project works to improve the wellbeing and mental health of the community through nature connection. They ran a session where school children planted sunflowers as a positive outlet of grief in memory of their headteacher who passed away. And set up a regular gardening session for people on probation to help improve their wellbeing and integration to the community.

Hackney, London
Postcode Gardener: Rachael Cohen
Delivery Partner: ecoACTIVE
Hackney has been making wildflower meadows, planting bulbs with local schools and creating a “buzz line” through the area for bees and other insects. Jess says: "Gardening brings people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels together to contribute towards a common goal."

Bideford, Devon
Postcode Gardener: Lizz Dobinson
Delivery Partner: Bideford Town Centre Partnership
Bideford has been growing a community herb garden, planting flowers with young people, surveying bumblebee numbers and organising a Seed Swap. Lizz says: "Every time I walk past one of our plots, I’ve noticed someone has taken a fruit or vegetable."
