What causes climate change?
Our planet is warmer now than at any point in the past 1,000 years, and levels of planet-warming greenhouse gases have rocketed in the past 100 years. This is largely due to humans burning coal, oil and gas, and cutting down forests.
If we don't stop doing these things, the planet will continue to heat up. Each degree of warming will bring more extreme weather, placing communities across the world at risk of wildfires, floods and droughts.

We need a bold, fair climate plan
Climate change is already devastating lives around the world, especially in marginalised communities like disabled people, people of colour, women, and low-income households.
Here in the UK, older people, young children, and those with health conditions are more vulnerable to extreme temperatures. Communities with fewer resources, like coastal areas in decline or low-income countries such as the Solomon Islands, struggle most to recover from flooding.
That’s why we’re calling for fairness in the UK government’s new climate plan. Fairness means climate policy that works for everyone. By tackling existing inequalities and supporting three key groups: future generations, people in low-income countries, and people in poverty in the UK.
It also means fair access to transport, warm homes and good jobs, while ensuring the biggest costs fall on those most able to bear them.

Is the UK prepared for climate change?
The climate crisis is wreaking havoc around the world, and it’s often the most vulnerable people who are worst impacted. Climate adaptation is about putting plans and actions in place to deal with these impacts. But according to the Climate Change Committee, the UK is "strikingly unprepared".
