COP28 will be used as a time to assess where we are against meeting the Paris Agreement targets. Despite what the government says, the UK is currently behind meeting the legally binding goals.
We know that the date countries need to phase out fossil fuels by will be a hot topic. So we’ll keep pressuring the government to ensure they reduce the UK's reliance on fossil fuels and start making renewables a priority.
Over 80% of the UK population admitted they’re concerned about climate change. Our leaders need to listen and act now.

What we're doing to build a fairer planet
Holding the government to account on its responsibility to protect poorer nations from the impacts of climate breakdown. For example, the team launched a legal challenge against the government’s funding of US $1.15 billion to support a climate-wrecking gas megaproject in Mozambique. Whilst the ultimate ruling was very disappointing, launching this case actually helped secure a UK government policy to stop new investment in international fossil fuels using public funds.
Using environmental law to support individuals and local communities to launch their own campaigns. Our legal team have worked with individuals and other organisations to defend the public’s right to peacefully protest and gain access to key environmental legislation.
Pushing for policy changes to reduce air pollution in inner-city areas and support the marginalised communities that are impacted most.

We're taking the government to court for a second time over its inadequate climate plans. Despite the government revising its Net Zero Strategy after our first legal challenge, we believe it still fails to meet the UK's climate obligations. We're asking the Court to order the government to produce a plan that complies with its legal climate commitments.
Everybody deserves a healthy environment. We’re lobbying MPs to back a new law to protect forests and people, petitioning the UK parliament to make companies accountable for harm to people and the environment, and pressuring the government to scrap legislation that would compromise our right to stand up for people and planet.
