There is still hope
Just last year, 42% of the UK’s electricity came from renewable energy. A green future is possible. But we need more ambition and investment from the government to secure a truly green future.
Having the right policies, infrastructure and technology in place could see a 40-70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Bettering climate protection
Since 2022 we’ve beaten the UK government twice in court because its Net Zero strategies weren’t good enough to cut the level of carbon emissions we are legally required to reach as a nation. Our legal team will continue to hold our leaders to account and demand tougher legislation is finally created.
Fighting dirty fossil fuels
We’re challenging the government’s approval of fossil fuel projects. We helped win the Horse Hill oil drilling case, which has fundamentally changed the permission process for all new fossil fuel developments. It’s led to our latest legal success – stopping a new coal mine in Cumbria.
Preventing airport expansions
We took the government to court in our legal challenge to prevent a climate-wrecking third runway at Heathrow. Whilst the case ultimately went against us in the Supreme Court, the law was clarified, and importantly, to date no third runway has been built.
