Egdon Resources had applied twice to drill but a government planning inspector has now dismissed the appeals, raising concerns about potential impacts on water and residents.

East Midlands regional campaigner for Friends of the Earth, Chris Crean, said:

“Local campaigners are rightly celebrating, they have worked tirelessly to stop more drilling for oil and have gone through two planning meetings and the planning inquiry.

“It also vindicates the grounds on which the planning committee twice refused planning permission.

“There is no doubt that we need to keep fossil fuels in the ground if we are going to meet our climate responsibilities and here is one way in which working with the planning system can help to achieve that necessary outcome.”
