Planning and promoting your fundraising
Thank you for thinking about fundraising for Friends of the Earth.
Select an event or challenge that you’ll enjoy doing and that means something to you. It could be a personal challenge, or something you’re good at already. Here's some advice on planning and promoting your event.
Set a date and place
Put a date in the diary as soon as you can and tell all your friends and family. Could you time your event to coincide with a national event, making it more relevant and a more effective money-maker?
Where’s your fundraising going to take place and do you need a venue? Local schools, places of worship and community centres might offer you a space for free.
Create a JustGiving page
One of the easiest and most hassle-free ways to collect your donations is to use JustGiving, and it makes things easy for Friends of the Earth too. It takes just a few minutes for someone to donate and it’s totally secure.
- Visit Friends of the Earth’s JustGiving page
- Click the “Fundraise for us” button
- Follow the onscreen instructions
- Select the relevant category or event
You can customise your page and share the link to friends and family, so they can make a donation. When your fundraising is finished, the money will be automatically transferred to Friends of the Earth.
How you raise money depends on what you plan to do. You could ask for online sponsorship, sell your unwanted items, or charge an entrance fee to an event you’re hosting.
Promote your fundraising
Promoting your fundraising will help maximise the number of donations you receive – the more people you tell, the more money you’ll raise.
Can any of your friends, family or colleagues help to organise or promote your goal, challenge or event?
Spread the word on social media, include photos and a link to your JustGiving page. Ask your friends and family to share your post.
Posters and flyers are a great way to publicise your event. Design your own or download and print our ready-made poster.
Pay in your cash
Once you’ve finished fundraising, you’ll need to send us the money you’ve raised. JustGiving and Facebook birthday fundraiser donations are transferred to us automatically, but any cash you’ve collected independently will need paying in.
You can transfer your donations into your bank account and donate to your own JustGiving page.
Please only send cheques, not cash, in the post. Make sure the cheques are signed, dated and made payable to Friends of the Earth.
