More bad news for an unviable fracking industry as government rejects planning appeal today

In 2015 Lancashire County Council refused a fracking application from Cuadrilla for Roseacre Wood. Cuadrilla appealed and, following two public inquiries, the government has announced today that it has rejected the planning application.

Jamie Peters, campaigner for Friends of the Earth, said:

“This is fantastic news which will be a huge relief to Roseacre residents. It’s also a triumph for the tireless campaigners who have worked long and hard for this outcome.“But many other communities across England are still faced with the threat of fracking – the government must also listen to them and accept that this industry is unviable.

“With scientists warning that there is so little time left to get on top of climate change, it’s clearer than ever that the future lies in clean, renewable energy.”
