British mammals’ fight for survival

Friends of the Earth nature campaigner Sandra Bell said: 

“Ministers must do far more to defend Britain’s wildlife from the sustained threats of climate change, intensive agriculture and habitat loss. 

“Our lives will be far poorer if our children don’t experience the thrill of seeing iconic species like red squirrels chasing one another or hedgehogs in their gardens.

“Urgent action is needed to defend nature. This must include bolder measures to slash climate-changing emissions - and ensuring that Britain’s post-Brexit farming policies significantly boost habitat and cut pesticides.

“Assurances are also needed that there will be no weakening of the laws that protect our most precious nature sites and under-threat species when we leave the EU.”
